    Enquiry Form

FUE is short for Follicular Unit Extraction. In this method, the hair follicles are extracted individually from the donor area which is behind the scalp. Once the hair grafts are taken they are transplanted back to the bald area or problematic area. In this article, we have shared everything about the regrowth of hair after hair transplant.

Hair growth timeline after FUE treatment

    1 to 3 months

    • Shock loss

During the first week, the transplanted hair will start to grow and it is temporary. From the 1st to 4th week the hair growth ceases and hair follicles will fall out along with scabs which is normal.

    • Hair fall

The hair which falls out is just hair shafts. People might think that hair follicles are coming out. But, the truth is that the hair follicles are safe underneath the scalp.

    • Resting phase

Once the hair falls out, the hair goes into a resting phase which is around 8 to 10 weeks. In some cases, the hair follicles can lose contact. However, in some cases, there might be some hair that falls at a later stage. So, if the hair appears patchy do not worry. After the resting phase, the hair will grow in the bald area.

    3 to 6 months

    • Regrowth of hair

After 3 months, you will notice new hair which may be thin and curly like body hair. As the hair grows they will become strong and thick.

    • Patchy hair growth

The hair grows is in different stages due to which the transplanted hair can regrow in patchy form.

    6 to 9 months

    • Hair bursting stage

By this time, hair growth will be the most noticeable. The hair growth will be around 1 to 2 cm per month and they will get thick within the next couple of months.

    9 to 12 months

    • Final hair growth

Within one 9 to 12 months, the hair will grow very thick. At this point, if you want you can style your hair with your favourite haircut. But, make sure you do not razor or other cutting instruments for the first year.

In most cases, the proper hair growth takes one year and the outcomes are visible within 12 to 15 months. Just make to follow the surgeon’s guideline and the results will be what you are looking for.

What about the FUE donor scar?

With the FUE method, tiny like dot scars are left on the scalp from where the grafts are taken. Your haircut can easily cover the scar on the scalp.

    Hair Care regime

Well, you can manage your hair in the same way as you used to do with your natural hair. You need to use mild shampoo and conditioner at the start of the treatment.
